Polishing oils, residues and other contamination can interfere with that bond, leaving the coating trying to adhere to what’s sitting on the paint rather than the paint itself.

New Doesn’t Mean the Paint Is Ready to Protect
You’ve just bought a new vehicle.
The last thing you want to discover after it’s been ceramic coated is that defects were already there when the coating went on.
Before you take delivery, a new vehicle may have already been through shipping, transport, storage, handling, washing and dealership preparation.
During that process we regularly find:

Most of the Work Happens Before the Coating Bottle Is Opened
A significant proportion of the skilled labour involved in a Modesta installation happens before the coating bottle is even opened.

The coating is important. But so is everything that happens before it goes on – and what happens after it has been applied.
We Don’t Want Defects Coming Back After the Coating Goes On
Correcting paintwork isn’t always as simple as polishing a defect until you can no longer see it.
Deep water spotting, mineral deposits, bug etching, sap staining and other environmental damage can sometimes appear to have been successfully removed during machine correction – only to become visible again after the paintwork goes through a significant heat cycle.
That’s a problem if the vehicle has already been ceramic coated.
The last place we want an old defect revealing itself is underneath a freshly installed Modesta coating after the vehicle spends its first hot day sitting in the sun.
Infra-Red Heat Cycling During Paint Correction
Where the condition of the paintwork requires it, we can use our professional short-wave infra-red equipment as part of the paint correction process – before the ceramic coating is applied.
Affected panels are deliberately and carefully heat-cycled under controlled conditions, then allowed to stabilise and reinspected.
This can reveal stubborn water spotting, mineral staining, bug or sap etching and other defects that appeared to have been removed during the initial correction process.
If a defect reappears, we know the correction isn’t finished.
The affected area can then be corrected and refined again before another inspection or heat cycle where required.
The objective is simple:
Expose the problem before we protect the paint – not afterwards.
This is another reason a professional ceramic coating installation can require considerably more workshop time than simply giving a vehicle a quick machine polish and applying a coating.
We aren’t only interested in how the paint looks immediately after polishing under workshop lights.
We want to know what we’re actually putting the coating over.
Once we’re satisfied with the corrected finish, the vehicle can move through the final cleaning and surface-degreasing stages, Modesta P-01A Coating Primer and ultimately the ceramic coating itself.
And that’s where our infra-red equipment takes on an entirely different role.
The Same Equipment. Two Completely Different Jobs.
Our professional infra-red equipment can play two distinctly different roles during a Modesta installation:
Before coating – heat cycling: Where required, controlled heat cycling can be used during paint correction to help expose stubborn or previously concealed defects before the finish is protected.
After coating – heat curing: Once Modesta has been applied, controlled infra-red curing is used to activate the coating’s curing process, helping the coating film harden and develop its intended strength and durability.
One helps us establish what’s really happening in the paint before we protect it.
The other helps properly cure the protection we’ve applied over it.
Prepare the vehicle properly first. Protect it second. Properly cure it last.
Why Infra-Red Curing the Coating Matters
Once the Modesta coating has been applied, the job still isn’t finished.
Infra-red curing isn’t simply about making the coating dry faster.
Every Modesta paint coating installation at Custom Car Care Wagga undergoes controlled infra-red heat curing as part of the installation process.
The controlled heat helps activate hardeners within the coating and complete the chemical curing process, helping the coating film harden and develop its intended strength and durability.
We’re not using infra-red lamps simply so the vehicle can leave the workshop sooner.
We use them because the way a coating is cured affects the coating you’re ultimately left with.
Rather than applying Modesta and immediately returning the vehicle, we dedicate additional workshop time to systematically heat-cure the coated surfaces under controlled conditions.
Some detailers invest in professional infra-red curing systems and build this process into their ceramic coating installations.
Others will tell you it isn’t necessary.
We know which approach we prefer.
When you’re investing in long-term paint protection, we’d rather invest in the equipment, workshop time and additional process required to help the coating harden properly and develop the durable coating film it was designed to provide.
Infra-red curing doesn’t eliminate the remaining cure period. The coating continues curing and developing its full chemical resistance after leaving our workshop, which is why every customer receives specific aftercare instructions.
For approximately the first 2–3 weeks, we recommend avoiding detergents, snow foams, drive-through car washes and unnecessary washing while the coating completes this process.
Preparation creates the finish. Application protects it. Proper curing completes the process.

The Signature Restoration Detail isn’t an arbitrary premium price. It reflects the extraordinary amount of specialist time, experience and hands-on workmanship dedicated to a single vehicle.
This service is designed for vehicles requiring far more than conventional detailing or paint correction – particularly vehicles with severe paint defects, significant fading or oxidation, and years of accumulated environmental contamination and deterioration – combined with our highest level of Modesta ceramic protection.
It’s about taking a vehicle that requires an extensive exterior & interior restoration process, reversing years of deterioration wherever possible, then protecting the restored finish with our top-tier ceramic coating system.
That level of restoration takes time. Heavy contamination may need to be removed progressively, faded and weathered surfaces restored where possible and severely defective paintwork corrected and refined through multiple stages before long-term protection can even be considered.
Deep mineral spotting, bug etching, sap staining and other long-established environmental defects can require an even more methodical approach.
Where necessary, affected paintwork can be deliberately heat-cycled during the correction process and reinspected before protection. If a defect reveals itself again after heating, further correction and refinement can be carried out rather than simply coating over a problem that may return later.
Years of exposure can’t be properly reversed in a day or two.
We’ve completed nearly a dozen restorations at this level over the years, and the finished vehicles and results speak for themselves. What photographs don’t always convey are the 50–70+ hours of skilled work that can be required to achieve them.

Modesta BC-06 is a professional heat-resistant hard glass coating specifically suited to wheels, brake calipers and other surfaces exposed to high temperatures and heavy contamination.
BC-06 forms a dense, durable silica-based protective layer that helps prevent brake dust, road grime and high-temperature contamination from bonding strongly to the surface, making treated components considerably easier to clean and maintain.

For an additional level of protection, Modesta BC-06 Top Coat (BC-06TC) can be applied over BC-06 to create a strongly hydrophobic surface, adding increased water repellency and making treated wheels even easier to maintain.
At Custom Car Care Wagga, BC-06 is incorporated into our wheels-off Modesta protection packages, allowing the wheels to be properly cleaned and prepared before coating rather than simply coating the visible wheel faces.

Modesta EGC – Exterior Glass Coating
Modesta EGC is a professional hydrophobic glass coating designed to provide clearer vision in wet conditions, easier maintenance and long-term protection for exterior automotive glass.
Once applied, EGC forms an ultra-thin, transparent hydrophobic layer that causes water to bead and release more readily from the glass, helping maintain clearer visibility during wet-weather driving.

As with paint coatings, the performance of a glass coating depends heavily on the surface underneath it.
Before EGC is applied, the exterior glass is thoroughly cleaned and prepared. Where required, specialist glass polishing and Modesta’s dedicated cerium oxide preparation system can be used to remove bonded contamination and residues that may interfere with the coating’s bond to the glass.
Only once the surface is properly prepared is EGC applied.

Modesta EPC – Exterior Plastic Coating
Modesta EPC is a professional coating specifically developed to restore, enhance and protect unpainted exterior plastic surfaces.
On weathered plastics, EPC helps restore colour depth and saturation to trim that has become faded or dulled through environmental exposure. On new plastics, it provides preventative protection designed to help preserve the original appearance from the beginning.

Modesta LPS-01/02 – Leather Protection System
Modesta LPS-01/02 is a professional two-stage leather protection system designed to protect genuine leather and suitable leather-like interior surfaces against contamination, staining, UV exposure and everyday wear.
Rather than relying on a single protective product, the system uses two complementary layers, each performing a different role.
LPS-01 Base Protection creates an invisible protective barrier that helps prevent liquids, dirt and contamination from penetrating the surface. It also helps reduce staining and colour transfer while making treated leather easier to clean and maintain.

Ceramic Coating Doesn’t Make Your Car Maintenance-Free
Ceramic coating changes how you maintain your vehicle. It doesn’t eliminate the need to maintain it.
A properly installed ceramic coating helps protect the finish and makes the vehicle considerably easier to maintain.
Correct washing still matters to the appearance and long-term performance of the coating.

How Much Does a Modesta Ceramic Coating Cost?
Our Modesta ceramic coating packages start from approximately $2,000 for suitable new vehicles, with comprehensive paint, wheel and glass packages starting from approximately $3,000, depending on the vehicle and preparation required.
More extensive detailing and correction packages range from $3,500–$4,000, while our Signature Restoration Detail starts from $6,500.
Why Can a Brand-New Car Sometimes Cost More than $2000?
Because new doesn’t necessarily mean defect-free.
Black and dark-coloured vehicles in particular can require additional correction depending on transport, storage, dealership washing and pre-delivery preparation.
Water spotting, environmental contamination and other defects can also require additional correction and inspection – including controlled infra-red heat cycling where appropriate – before we’re satisfied the paintwork is ready to protect.
We quote according to the work required rather than assuming every new vehicle arrives in identical condition.
Do You Ceramic Coat Used Vehicles?
Absolutely.
Used vehicles generally require an inspection before quoting because paint condition and the amount of correction required can vary enormously.
Is Paint Correction Included?
Yes. Paint preparation is fundamental to our coating process.
We don’t apply our professional ceramic coating systems over paintwork that hasn’t first been properly assessed and prepared.
The level of correction depends on the vehicle and package selected.
Where stubborn water spotting, mineral staining, bug etching, sap staining or similar defects are present, controlled infra-red heat cycling may also form part of the correction process where required.
What’s the Difference Between Infra-Red Heat Cycling and Infra-Red Curing?
They’re two different processes performed at different stages of the job.
Infra-red heat cycling during paint correction may be used where required before coating to help expose stubborn or previously concealed defects so they can be dealt with before the finish is protected.
Infra-red curing takes place after the Modesta coating has been applied and uses controlled heat to activate the coating’s curing process.
One is part of preparing the paintwork where required.
The other is part of properly curing the ceramic protection we’ve installed.
How Long Will You Need My Vehicle?
Most Modesta installations require approximately 3–5 days.
Extensive correction and restoration packages can require considerably longer.
How Long Does Modesta Last?
Depending on the Modesta coating selected, vehicle usage and ongoing maintenance, different systems are designed to provide several years of protection.
Longevity isn’t determined by the coating alone – preparation, application, curing, vehicle use and maintenance all contribute to long-term performance.
What Does a Ceramic Coating Protect Against?
A professionally installed ceramic coating creates a durable protective layer over the prepared paintwork.
It helps protect the factory finish against UV exposure, environmental contamination, bird droppings, insects, mineral deposits, chemical exposure and the everyday deterioration an unprotected vehicle is subjected to.
It also provides strong water repellency and makes the vehicle considerably easier to clean and maintain.
But it’s important to understand what ceramic coating is – and what it isn’t.
Ceramic coating isn’t armour, and it doesn’t make your vehicle scratch-proof.
It won’t prevent stone chips, dents, key scratches or other physical impact damage. If physical protection against stone chips and impacts is the priority, that’s the role of products such as paint protection film (PPF), not ceramic coating.
What a quality ceramic coating does exceptionally well is provide long-term protection against environmental exposure and contamination while helping preserve the properly prepared finish underneath it.
And that’s why we place so much emphasis on preparation before the coating goes on.

For used vehicles, we may ask to inspect the vehicle for approximately 10–15 minutes before providing a final recommendation.
For new vehicles, particularly black and darker colours, the final preparation requirement can only be confirmed once we’ve inspected the paintwork.
Current bookings are generally several weeks in advance, so early enquiries are recommended for new vehicles with an expected delivery date.
